Vancouver Trauma Conferences
Dr. Dietrich has organized four Vancouver Trauma Conferences over the past several years, which have been well-received by the professional community.
The first conference occurred when Dr. Dietrich and another professional were both sitting on the executive board of the Canadian Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation. They approached the executive and proposed a national trauma conference. For a variety of reasons, the society was not a sponsor of the conference. Dr. Dietrich provided the funding for the conference, invited several international experts including friends John Briere and Bessel van der Kolk, and designed the conference brochure and website. Her colleague handled the incoming registrations and paperwork. The conference was a huge success.
For the next two conferences, Dr. Dietrich invited a psychiatrist to assist with the conference planning, which provided an opportunity to offer education to medical professionals. The Faculty of Family Medicine also became involved through the assistance of Dr. Eva Knell. These two conferences were also huge successes.
The last conference was held in 2006 and was also well-received. Dr. Dietrich will be offering additional conferences in the future.
